How to Teach English

             English is one of the international language with the number of speakers at the second  rank  in the world after Chinese language. Some countries have used English as their official language  as well as second language. While  in Indonesia English is  not used in daily life . Even so there is no reason for us as a nation of Indonesia not to learn English in view of the importance of that language  to support broader communication.

             To improve the ability of our nation in mastering English required the teaching process. The teaching process which is needed is  efficient and effective a teaching process  or in other words the teaching process that achieves an output even with all the limitations occured. Therefore  in this article will  be described  some tips for teaching English.

             First, understand  the pupil will be educated in terms of age, education level,  English proficeincy level and learning preferences. Before we teach we should do a survey of those terms because  age affects the ability to think, education levels affect patterns of thinking,  English proficiency level affects  the material to be taught later and learning preference  affects to  the presentantion of a material.

             Second, give the motivation about the importance of English and  the benefits will be gained from studying English , especially in economic aspect because human being is economic human who will not be tempted by "material". Begin with  focusing on big goals will be achieved is  better than start with the threat of small failures that will occured.

             Third, make English teaching lesson traced, structured, complete and easy to be understood. Present the lesson as a whole , not piece by piece that eventually make students confused. Lest leveling of material makes no material intact as was the case in the matter of tenses, in the first level are usually taught simple present and the present continuous tense at first level then taught the other tenses at upper level and so on. It will not be effective and efficient. Leveling in English teaching should be arranged from the most basic to the most complex case, for example, level 1 focus on the noun, pronoun and adjective, then level 2 of the adjective, subject, verb, and so on to discuss the most complicated thing and also  in teaching conversation, writting and listening.

             Fourth,intersperse the teaching process with the game that make student becomes more understand of the material being taught. The game can be done individually or in group. But keep in mind the game only an  "intermezzo", so the main focus remains on the teaching of English. But not all the students love the game, when the conditions such as that it can be used other alternatives such as watching Englsih video, listening to English poetry, English story telling  and so on.


             Fifth, Make sure the teacher prepare the lesson deeply and throughly because the main factor for best presentation is mastering the lesson. Endeavor don’t be present an uncertain answer and if the teacher doesn’t know the answer so answer with esteemed words as, “ may be we shall discuss this case viscerally next week in sha Allah.”
